What this is

Registration in the System for Award Management (SAM) is mandatory before a business can receive a federal contract or grant. It also issues your Unique Entity ID (UEI).

Before you start

• An active EIN that matches IRS records
• A bank account for electronic funds transfer
• Your NAICS codes and business size information

How to get it — step by step

1. 1

   Create a Login.gov account and sign in to SAM.gov.

2. 2

   Start a new entity registration — SAM.gov assigns your Unique Entity ID during this step.

3. 3

   Enter core business data, assertions (NAICS codes, size), and financial information for payment.

4. 4

   Complete the representations and certifications section.

5. 5

   Submit and wait for the registration to move to “Active”, then download the registration record.
